Jamaica as a pharmaceutical cannabis base.

Jamaican law defines permitted medicinal, therapeutic and scientific purposes to include research, clinical trials, therapy and treatment, and the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. That definition is the foundation of everything below.

What the licence framework allows

Current export regulations allow holders of a valid Cultivator, Processing, Retail or Research and Development licence to apply to the Cannabis Licensing Authority for an export permit for medical, therapeutic or scientific purposes. Quantities are determined by the Authority for each application, and the application itself requires detailed information on the material, including quantity, strain, THC and CBD percentages and supporting analytical documentation where relevant.

The Research and Development Experimental licence separately covers assessment, study, research, development and testing of cannabis derived products. Taken together, the framework already describes a pharmaceutical supply operation. It does not need to be invented, it needs to be run properly.

The model we are building

Rather than trying to sell recreational style products to pharmaceutical buyers, we position the operation as a pharmaceutical cannabis research and clinical trial supply platform. In practice that means a defined chain: a GMP oriented delta 9 THC API, a defined formulation, a fixed dose, batch specific analytical and stability data, and clinical trial material released against that record.

The limit of a Jamaican permit

A Jamaican export permit does not by itself allow material into the United Kingdom, European Union, United States, Canada or Australia. The sponsor or importer must hold the relevant controlled drug, clinical trial, manufacturing and import authorisations in the destination country. Any supplier who tells you otherwise is describing a shipment that will not clear.

Why this matters locally

Pharmaceutical supply keeps the high value stages of the chain, extraction, standardisation, analytics and documentation, inside Jamaica. We work with licensed growers rather than replacing them, and the revenue from permitted export returns to Jamaican farms and the parishes around them. We intend to break the record for medical cannabis exportation from Jamaica, and to do it with paperwork that stands up.
